Maintenance that keeps you diving
Gear Service
Keep your kit reliable, comfortable, and ready to dive.
Your scuba gear is life-support equipment—and it deserves the same attention you give your dive planning. Regular servicing and a few smart care habits help your equipment perform the way it should when you’re underwater.
At Dive Magic, our team brings years of scuba experience and a deep commitment to PADI standards of diving and safety. If you’re not sure what your gear needs (or when it needs it), we’ll help you think it through and point you toward the right next step.
Why gear service matters
A great dive starts before you ever hit the water. When equipment is clean, cared for, and checked regularly, you get:
- More confidence underwater (less second-guessing and fiddling)
- More comfort (better fit and fewer small annoyances)
- More reliability (reduced chance of issues at the worst time)
Even if everything “seems fine,” wear happens slowly—salt, chlorine, sun, and simple use add up. Servicing is how you catch small problems early, before they turn into a missed dive day.

A practical rule of thumb
How often should you service your scuba gear?
Different pieces of equipment have different needs, and the best baseline is always your manufacturer’s recommendations. Many divers use a 1–2 year service window as a general guideline—then adjust based on how often they dive and where their gear is used (salt, pool, travel, storage conditions, etc.).
If you’re ever in doubt, bring it in and talk with us. A quick conversation about your dive history and how the gear’s been stored can clarify what makes sense.
Small habits, big payoff
Simple care tips that make a big difference
You don’t need a complicated routine to keep your gear happy. A few consistent habits go a long way.
Mask care (and how to beat fog)
When you get a new mask, it’s important to clean it right away—oils from the manufacturing process can cause fogging on the lens. Using a mild cleaner or non-gel toothpaste can effectively remove this film.
Before each dive, apply a commercial or organic defog solution and keep the mask on your face to prevent the defog from rinsing out or drying up. Remember: a little defog goes a long way, and if you opt for a homemade or organic defog, prioritize eco-friendly options for a cleaner experience.
After use, rinse your mask and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. And don’t forget the little parts—regularly check the strap for signs of wear and tear, and replace it as needed.
If you notice chlorine or saltwater buildup, you can use toothpaste as necessary to help clean it off.

Arranging gear service with Dive Magic
The easiest way to get started is to reach out and tell us what you have and what’s going on—whether it’s a routine check, a specific issue you’ve noticed, or a “this hasn’t been out of the closet in a while” situation.
When you contact us, it helps to share:
- The type of equipment you want serviced
- The brand/model (if you know it)
- When it was last serviced (estimate is fine)
- How often you dive and whether it’s mostly saltwater, pool, or both
- Any symptoms you’ve noticed (leaks, fogging, sticking, odd feel, etc.)
We’ll help you figure out the best path forward and what to bring in.
